I can do it

Baby Boomer—that’s me! I’ve always thought that was a pretty good thing to be and have been keen to tell people I was a Boomer, BUT it now means that I am over 65 and doesn’t that mean I am a senior, too? How could I be a senior and receiving Old Age Security as I am booming and active and interested in things happening in the world? “Senior” doesn’t fit with active, interested, or booming—or does it? Of course it does!

I have been trying to think about my parents at my age. What were they like? What were they doing at my age? They had grandchildren. I don’t, but that doesn’t matter. They were traveling. They were active in the Church and still working very hard. In fact just a couple of days before my Dad died at age 80+, he was vacuuming at the Church—so he was very active. My Mom died at the age of 94, just a year ago (almost to the day as I write this). She continued to be active and very interested in the Church until just a few weeks before she died.

I can do it! I have lots to offer and I just have to figure out what works, and what doesn’t, for me. I am still doing paid work part-time. I am a Presbyterian. I help to lead things at my Church and another congregation. I am involved in the WMS (Women’s Missionary Society) at the congregational, presbyterial, synodical, and national levels. I am on committees and have friends (most of whom are Boomers, too). I travel. I am excited to consider new adventures. That’s good isn’t it? Yes, I can do it.

Yes, you can do it, Janet, and you ARE doing it! Brave to reveal your age – I thought you were closer to my age. Haha! Thanks for sharing your experience in being a boomer.
